The story of Ruth is told from a Christian perspective with keen insight into Jewish customs and traditions. The story is an allegory of the kinsman redeemer. Naomi represents mother Israel, Ruth—the Gentiles and Bride of the Messiah, Boaz—the Messiah, and Boaz’ servant (naar)—the Holy Spirit. The reasons for writing the book are shown to be: 1) the story of hesed (lovingkindness) among God’s people, 2) David was not disqualified from the throne because of Gentile blood from Ruth his grandmother, 3) David had hegemony over Ishbosheth, and finally 4) the allegory of the Messiah.
